Understanding Serial Number Configuration in AlisQI
What is serial number configuration?
Serial number configuration in AlisQI uses an auto-increment field. When it is activated, the next value is determined from the existing data in the analysis set.
How does the auto-increment value start?
The serial number starts as follows:
- If the analysis set already contains values, the serial number starts at the maximum value in the field plus one.
- If the analysis set is empty when the serial number is activated, it starts at 1.
Does the system detect existing prefixes or patterns?
No. The system does not perform a pattern match to find the highest existing counter based on a prefix, and it does not ask for a starting value.
What can affect serial number behavior?
Serial numbers may not behave as expected when they have been:
- Manually edited
- Imported with existing values
- Combined with prefixes
- Activated and deactivated after data already exists
In these cases, gaps or duplicate values can occur, especially if values are changed manually or imported.
What should be checked when serial numbers are not sequential?
Review the existing serial number values in the analysis set and check whether:
- The field was activated after data was already present
- Values were manually changed
- Data was imported with existing serial numbers
- The serial number was deactivated and later activated again
What is the main limitation to keep in mind?
The auto-increment field does not fully validate or recognize existing number patterns, so uniqueness is not strictly enforced by pattern matching.
