Cost Tracking Form
Learn how the Cost Tracking template helps you log the costs of quality issues and total them per complaint, deviation or batch in AlisQI.
The Cost Tracking template gives you one place to log every cost of correcting a quality issue, such as disposed material, rework, scrapped materials, return transport, credit notes or time spent analyzing the issue. You can link each cost to the complaint, deviation or off-spec batch that caused it, and see the total cost per issue. Quality engineers and managers log the costs; management and finance use the totals for cost-of-quality reporting.
What's included
| Field | Description |

| ID | Generated automatically. |
| Date | Date the cost was incurred. |
| Related Registration | ID of the quality record that caused the cost, for example a complaint or deviation. |

| Quantity | The amount the cost is based on, such as pieces or hours. |
| Unit of Measure | The unit for the quantity, such as piece, kg, hour or km. |
| Unit Cost | Cost per unit, in USD or EUR. |
| Total Cost | Calculated automatically: Quantity × Unit Cost. |
How it works
- Create a new Cost Tracking record whenever a cost is incurred. Fill in the date, cost type, quantity, unit of measure and unit cost, and add a description if useful.
- Enter the ID of the related complaint, deviation or batch in Related Registration.
- Log more costs against the same registration whenever they occur, for example a disposal cost today and a rework cost next week. This works whether the registration is open or closed.
- When the related registration is closed, a workflow adds up all costs linked to it. The roll-up can also be started manually.
Expected result: Each quality issue has a total cost based on all costs logged against it.
Adapting the template
- Choose your currency: USD or EUR
- Adjust the cost types and units of measure to the terms your organization uses
- Choose which processes (complaints, deviations, non-conformances) get the automatic cost roll-up, and whether it runs on closure or manually
- Optionally, link Related Registration to your registration forms instead of typing the ID
