Why Can't I See or Edit a Field, Menu Item, or Feature in AlisQI?
Quick answer: If you can't see or edit a field, menu option, or module in AlisQI, it's almost always one of five things: you're in the wrong user group, your user group has a field-level access restriction, you're missing Analysis Set edit permission, you don't have the Administrator role, or the feature isn't included in your license. Use the table below to find your situation, then jump to the matching fix.
Is this your issue?- A field is visible but you can't edit its contents
- A field (and its contents) isn't visible at all, even though other users can see it
- A menu bar or toolbar option is missing or greyed out
Quick diagnosis
| What you're experiencing | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| You can see a field's value but can't change it | Missing Analysis Set edit permission | Solution A |
| A field is missing entirely, but other users can see it | Wrong user group, or a field-level access restriction | Solution B |
| You can't access Application settings, Users, or Permissions | Missing Administrator role | Solution C1 |
| Some other menu/toolbar option is missing, but you can access Management fine | Missing module permission | Solution C2 |
| Nobody — not even administrators — can see the option | Feature not included in your license | Solution C3 |
Solution A: I can't edit a field's contents
When this applies: you can see a previously entered value in a field, but you can't change it. Cause: the user group is missing the Edit permission for that field's Analysis Set.
- Go to Management > Permissions > Analysis sets.
- Select the user's User group.
- Select the Analysis set group that contains the affected Analysis set, then click Show.
- Check whether the user group has the Edit permission.
- If not, enable it and click Save.
- Ask the user to edit a result in that Analysis set again and confirm the field can now be changed.
Expected result: the user can edit the previously entered value.
Solution B: I can't see a field at all
When this applies: a field and its contents don't appear at all for one user, while other users can see it fine. Cause: either the user is in the wrong user group, or the correct user group is blocked from that field by an access restriction.
Check the user group first:
- Go to Management > Users > Users.
- Find the affected user.
- Confirm they're assigned to the correct User group.
- If not, click the edit icon, assign the correct group, and click Save.
Then check access restrictions (if applicable)
5. Open the results overview for the affected Analysis set, then click More > Access restrictions.
6. Look for any rule that lists the field as a Block field for the user's group.
7. Delete or edit that rule, then save your changes.
8. Ask the user to add a new result in that Analysis set and confirm the field is now visible.
Expected result: the user can see the field and its contents.
Solution C: I'm missing a menu or toolbar option
Missing menu bar or toolbar options come from one of three causes. Start here to identify which one applies, then follow the matching fix below.
- Can't access Application settings, Users, or Permissions under Management? → Solution C1
- Missing a different menu or toolbar option, but Management itself is accessible? → Solution C2
- Is the option missing for everyone, including administrators? → Solution C3
Solution C1: I can't access Application settings, Users, or Permissions
Cause: the user isn't assigned the Administrator role.
- Go to Management > Users > Users.
- Find the affected user.
- Click the edit icon, check the Administrator checkbox, and click Save.
Expected result: the user can access Application settings, Users, and Permissions.
Solution C2: A specific menu or toolbar option is missing
Cause: the user's group is missing a module permission.
- Go to Management > Permissions > Module.
- Select the user's User group and click Show.
- Find the module the user is missing.
- Check the permission checkbox. Note: this grants the permission to every user in that user group, not just the one you're troubleshooting.
- Click Save.
Expected result: the user can access the menu bar or toolbar option.
Solution C3: No one can see the option — not even administrators
Cause: the feature belongs to a solver that isn't part of your license.
- Go to Management > Solvers.
- Check which solvers are active and which aren't.
- Click Learn more on any inactive solver to see whether it covers the missing feature.
- Click Request activation to request that solver.
Expected result: you'll know which solver unlocks the feature, and activation has been requested.
